Jiufen (九份) is a mountain area in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City . Until 1893 when gold was discovered in the area, Jiufen was relatively isolated. The gold rush accelerated the village's development, and reached its peak prosperity during the era of Japanese rule. Today, Jiufen’s nostalgic scenery still charms many tourists into visiting, and numerous retro-Chinese style cafés, tea houses, and souvenir stores have been opened to serve the mass of patrons everyday.
